How to Add Armenian Subtitles to a Video (SRT, ASS or Burned-In)

Create Armenian subtitles automatically: choose SRT, ASS or burned-in captions, style them, and upload them to YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.

Key takeaways

  • To add Armenian subtitles, upload your video to app.hispeech.ai, choose Add subtitles, review the captions, then export an .SRT or .ASS file or a video with the subtitles burned in.
  • Choose SRT for YouTube and video editors like CapCut, ASS for styled captions in players and editors, and burned-in for Instagram Reels, TikTok and anywhere captions must always show.
  • A subtitle file costs 4 credits per second of video and a video with burned-in captions costs 10 credits per second, so a 1-minute video costs 240 or 600 credits.
  • Videos can be up to 15 minutes long. Subtitles are made in the web, mobile and desktop apps; the API returns text only.

Which subtitle format do I need: SRT, ASS or burned-in?#

Pick the format by where the video will be published. Use SRT for YouTube and video editors such as CapCut, ASS when you need styled captions in a player, and burned-in subtitles for Instagram, TikTok and anywhere viewers cannot turn captions on:

FormatWhat it isUse it for
.SRTA plain text file with numbered captions and start and end times. Viewers can turn it on or off.YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, CapCut, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut, VLC
.ASSA subtitle file that also stores styling: fonts, colors, outlines and on-screen position.Styled captions in players and editors that support ASS (VLC, mpv, Aegisub)
Burned-inThe captions are drawn into the video picture itself. Always visible and cannot be turned off.Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, WhatsApp and Telegram videos, ads

Many people scroll social media with the sound off, so burned-in captions let them follow your video without turning the sound on.

What does an Armenian SRT file look like?#

An SRT file is plain text. Each caption has a number, a start and end time in hours:minutes:seconds, milliseconds, and the caption text. Armenian text is stored in UTF-8, so the letters display correctly on YouTube, Facebook and in video editors:

1
00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:03,000
Խոսում է, գրում է, պատմում է, ասում է։

2
00:00:03,200 --> 00:00:05,800
Ենթագրերը ստեղծվել են hispeech.ai-ով։

You can open an SRT file in any text editor to fix a word. An ASS file has the same captions plus a block of style settings, which is why players that support it can show your fonts and colors.

How do I add Armenian subtitles to a video?#

Upload the video to hispeech.ai, let it generate the captions, review them, and export the format you need. The five steps:

  1. Upload your video. Open app.hispeech.ai or the iOS, Android, macOS or Windows app and upload the video (MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM and more, up to 15 minutes long).
  2. Choose "Add subtitles". The app asks whether you want to transcribe the video or add subtitles. Subtitles use the Formal model, which writes clean literary Armenian, the right choice for captions.
  3. Review the captions. Play the video and read along. You can edit any caption's text, add or delete captions, listen to a single caption, and set the maximum number of words per caption so lines stay short.
  4. Style them (optional). Click a caption on the video preview to open the style panel, then change its colors, size, font, border, position and animation, or apply a template.
  5. Export. Choose Export SRT, Export ASS, or export the video with the subtitles burned in.

Subtitles are created in the hispeech.ai apps. The developer API returns text transcriptions and does not generate subtitle files or subtitled video.

Can I style Armenian subtitles and use my own font?#

Yes. Click (or tap) a caption on the video preview to open the style panel. You can change the colors, size, font, border, position, animation, highlighted keywords and timing, or apply a ready-made template. The panel has six tabs:

TabWhat you can change
Back ColorThe background color of the caption box.
Text ColorThe color of the caption text.
Text SizeHow big the captions are.
StyleFont, text effects, border, position, animation, keywords and timing (details below).
TemplatesReady-made looks, such as Montserrat Glow Orange or Montserrat Word Highlight, and your own saved styles.
AudioNoise cleaning and volume fixing for the exported video.

The Style tab holds the detailed settings:

  • Text: choose a font, or click Create to design your own in the Font Designer. Turn on Bold, Italic, Underline, Strikeout or UPPERCASE.
  • Border style: Box, Outline, Shadow or Glow, with adjustable box padding and corner roundness.
  • Position and size: place the caption anywhere on a 3×3 grid, change the text direction, stretch it with Scale X and Scale Y, and set the letter spacing and angle.
  • Animation: choose how each caption appears on screen.
  • Keywords: list words to highlight, such as names or brands, or turn on Auto-highlight key words.
  • Timing: with Lead-in, each caption appears a few milliseconds before the speech. 125 ms or less looks most natural.

When you like the result, click Save current style as template. Your style appears under Your drafts in the Templates tab, so every video in a series can look the same. Reset all takes you back to the default look.

The Audio tab improves the sound of the exported video. Clean noise removes background noise at the strength you choose, and Fix volume levels the volume. With both off, the exported video keeps its original sound.

If you need a font that does not exist yet, for a brand or a channel, the Font Designer lets you create and customise your own font, use it in captions, export it, and publish it to the shared font catalog for others to use.

How do I upload Armenian subtitles to YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok?#

Upload an SRT file on YouTube and Facebook, and a burned-in video on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts. Platform by platform:

YouTube

Open YouTube Studio, go to Subtitles, select your video, add Armenian as the language, then choose Upload file → With timing and select your .SRT file. Viewers can switch the captions on with the CC button, and the text helps YouTube understand what your video is about.

Facebook

When you upload or edit a video, open its subtitles and captions settings and upload the .SRT file. If you want the captions to show for everyone, including people who never turn captions on, publish the burned-in version instead.

Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts

Export the video with burned-in subtitles and upload that file. This is the most reliable way to get Armenian captions that look exactly the way you designed them.

Video editors

Import the .SRT file into CapCut, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut as a captions track, and adjust it there along with the rest of your edit.

How much do Armenian subtitles cost?#

A subtitle file costs 4 credits and a burned-in video 10 credits per second of video. With 600 free credits a day, you can burn subtitles into a 1-minute video at no cost:

OutputCredits per second1-minute video10-minute video
Subtitle file (.SRT / .ASS)4240 credits2,400 credits
Video with burned-in subtitles10600 credits6,000 credits

For regular video work, see the plans. Credits are shared between all apps and can be topped up at any time.

How do I make Armenian subtitles easy to read?#

Keep captions short, leave them on screen long enough, and use Armenian punctuation. Five rules:

  • Keep captions short. Aim for at most two lines of about 40 characters each. Lower the maximum words per caption if lines get long.
  • Give viewers time to read. A caption should normally stay on screen for at least one second and rarely more than six or seven.
  • Check names and terms. Proper names, brands and foreign words are where automatic captions most often need a fix.
  • Use Armenian punctuation. The full stop is ։, not a Latin period, and the question mark ՞ sits on the stressed vowel of the word being asked about.
  • Make the text readable on any background. Use an outline or a semi-transparent box behind white text so captions stay legible on bright scenes.
